Senior Programmer for Network and Multiplayer
Triband is the award-winning studio behind the WHAT THE? comedy game series, which is played by millions worldwide. From our home in central Copenhagen, more than 50 wonderful humans are united by a simple mission: to make everyone laugh.
As a Senior Programmer (for Network and Multiplayer) for one of our unannounced, exciting, goofy game projects, you'll be responsible for architecting and owning our online multiplayer tech that will be fundamental for the entire connected player experience. Later-on, you’ll become the in-house expert for all our games with multiplayer features.
Okay, let’s get more specific. Here’s what you’ll do on a day-to-day
In collaboration with game designers, artists and other programmers, you’ll build smooth and low-latency online play for a game with an existing game tech infrastructure, continuously iterating on improvements.
Our game engine here is Unity and our multiplayer technology of choice is Photon Fusion, so you’ll work with both technologies.
You’ll be the team’s domain expert and technical leader on multiplayer, networking, and real-time systems.
Requirements
You’ve shipped at least one online multiplayer game in Unity.
You have a very good understanding of multiplayer networking concepts (e.g., peer-to-peer, client-host models, synchronization and lag compensation) and feel comfortable explaining them to a five-year old.
You have a deep understanding of peer-to-peer and server-authoritative networking models, meaning you’re aware of the trade-offs of each model (i.e. bandwidth, latency, security, scalability) and can architect different solutions for varying gameplay approaches.
You’ll work mainly within the Apple ecosystem, so you'll need to get comfortable with using MacOS and various Apple technologies.
You feel confident taking responsibility for the long-term online multiplayer architecture and server networking across all our games with multiplayer features.
You enjoy sharing knowledge, mentoring others and adapting difficult concept explanations to audiences with varying knowledge levels.
Nice-to-haves
You have experience architecting and deploying server infrastructure.
You have experience with relay server setups and server health monitoring.
Requirements for any job at Triband
You thrive in taking ownership of your area: you spot problems, seek advice when needed, and implement creative solutions that push projects forward.
You're motivated by collaboration, mutual respect, inclusiveness, and creativity, and you actively contribute to sustaining that culture.
You value a positive work environment and contribute to making the studio a fun and supportive place.
You have team production experience, such as using version control software (we use git), branching, stand-ups, sprints, and reviews.
